About Us
The Liberty Oil brand has been operating in Australia since 1995. Since then, we have solidified our presence in the Australian market as the original fuel discounter. At Liberty Convenience, we strive to deliver a service station experience above all else. With over 80 service stations in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory, our team delivers a convenience store experience without compromise, establish on fresh, quality food, great, freshly ground coffee, excellent customer service and clean amenities for all travellers.
Where did we start?
Liberty was 100% owned by its founding partners, David Wieland and David Goldberger. The David’s started their petroleum careers with the creation of Solo in 1971. Joining forces with the ACTU, under then Union Leader Bob Hawke they introduced discount fuel in Victoria in 1975 and then NSW in 1977. Solo was divested to Ampol in 1989 at the time of sale the biggest independent fuel retailer and wholesaler in Australia.
Liberty Oil was then established by the David’s in 1995 and has remained Australian owned and operated since then. Today, we provide customers Australia-wide with premium quality fuels and competitive pricing at over 80 locations.
Where are we now?
In 2019 Viva Energy acquired Liberty Oil but as a part of the transaction, a new joint venture was established to operate the existing Liberty retail network (Liberty Oil Convenience) and continue to develop the company controlled network of retail service stations that brings contemporary retail fuel and convenience offer to regional and metropolitan markets. This venture is 50% owned by the David’s and Viva Energy.
